Bosch Q2 revenue jumps 28.2%; one-off lifts profit

2 minutes

Revenue rose 28.2%, but PBT before exceptional items grew 5.7%. A provision reversal and restated Chassis comparatives explain the gap.

Consolidated Bosch profit before tax was ₹1,122 crore in Q2 FY27, including a ₹130.4 crore service-award provision reversal. Before exceptional items it was ₹991.6 crore, up 5.7% from restated ₹937.8 crore in Q2 FY26. Revenue grew 28.2%.

Bosch Limited’s September-quarter results show strong sales growth, with a sizeable accounting boost to profit. Consolidated revenue from operations rose 28.2% to ₹7,655.1 crore in Q2 FY27, while a ₹130.4 crore provision reversal lifted reported profit before tax.

Separating that reversal gives a clearer reading of the quarter. Profit before tax and exceptional items rose 5.7%, considerably slower than revenue. The comparison also uses restated prior-year figures that already include Bosch Chassis Systems India.

The Breakdown

Reported consolidated profit before tax was ₹1,122 crore, compared with ₹937.8 crore a year earlier. That is growth of 19.6%, calculated by Makhana Mornings from the reported figures.

The exceptional gain came from reversing a provision for long-service recognition benefits for managerial staff. The group has decided to discontinue those benefits from January 1, 2027. The ₹130.4 crore reversal is an accounting adjustment, not additional sales.

Removing it leaves profit before tax and exceptional items of ₹991.6 crore, against ₹937.8 crore in the comparable quarter. Makhana Mornings calculates the increase at 5.7%. On the same basis, PBT as a share of revenue was about 13.0%, down from 15.7%.

This measure is profit before tax and exceptional items, not operating profit or cash generation. Keeping that distinction matters when judging how much of the sales increase reached the profit line.

Why the comparison matters

Bosch acquired the entire equity of Bosch Chassis Systems India with effect from July 1, 2026. The businesses were under the same ultimate parent before and after the transaction, so the combination was accounted for under the common-control rules.

The consolidated comparatives were restated as if the combination had occurred on April 1, 2025. The year-earlier revenue base is therefore ₹5,969.4 crore on the restated basis. Comparing the expanded group with an older, unrevised number would give a misleading view of growth.

Bosch attributed the revenue increase mainly to robust automotive demand. Its Power Solutions business grew 36.4%, Vehicle Motion 34.9% and two-wheelers 17.7%. These figures point to demand across several parts of the mobility business, rather than a single product category.

The share proposals are separate

The board also approved three bonus shares for every existing share and a subdivision of each ₹10 share, including the proposed bonus shares, into ₹2 shares. Both proposals remain subject to shareholder approval, with the record date still to be determined.

These proposals change the number and face value of shares if implemented. They do not, by themselves, create additional business earnings. They are best read separately from the quarter’s sales and profit performance.

The Crunch

Bosch delivered a strong quarter for revenue, on a restated comparison that includes the chassis business on both sides. Profit needs a more careful reading: the provision reversal lifted the reported total, while growth before exceptional items was 5.7%. The next useful test is whether future sales growth brings a stronger improvement in profit without another exceptional boost.
